Pulpit rock

I am a wife, an aunt, an out-of-the-job archaeologist, and a wanna be baker. But first and foremost, I am a mother.

My son is my world. And he is my reason.
Noah Atticus was born January 26, 2011.

This blog is my way of documenting his new and developing life.

Normally, I don’t post this kind of stuff. But I have to say… the list of friends that I have who have been scammed by an insurance provider and been left unable to receive care has been growing lately.
My brother is going to school in Scotland right now. He got sick once, he went to the doctor, they helped him, and then he stood at the window waiting to find out how to pay.
They thought he was crazy and had no idea what he wanted. He was shocked to find out that was all he had to do: be treated and go home. Health care for him is free there.
I have friends suffering from various things: gall bladder that needs to come out, abscess tooth -  my boyfriend is even suffering from either an ulcer or severe acid reflux, but health care is set up in such a way in this nation that these people have to suffer.
So, for this and for all the people who are against Obama’s health care plans - I hope you get sick and lose your insurance or get scammed and finally come to realize what that means.
If my taxes are paying for someone’s life to be saved - I’ll be more than happy to pay it. If my taxes were being used to help cloth the poor, feed the hungry, house the homeless, or heal the sick - I think I’d be thrilled.
Isn’t that what wealth is all about? The wealthy are in a position to help those that need it - why are we so greedy? You really need a billion dollars - so much money that you can’t even spend it as fast as you make it?
Imagine was just $1,000 would do for a poverty-stricken family…
If “socialist” health care means that I’m asked to pay taxes so that someone else can have a heart bypass surgery - or see a doctor when they get pregnant without insurance to ensure the health of their child - or just have fluids given to them when they fall from heat exhaustion or dehydration…. Then I’ll take socialism over whatever we have now.
But…you know, correct me if necessary. I’m not entirely sure what’s been going on with all these bills and what not. I’ll be the first to admit that I haven’t been following it all as closely as I should to be able to debate over it.
I just see images like the above and feel really sad that there is a whole faction of people who have a problem paying a few taxes when it will save lives - especially when one day it could be your own life that some other strangers are paying for.

Oh Heather.  Zach may want to get that checked out.  I one time thought I may have had an ulcer, but it turned out to be a baby!  Baha.  But in all seriousness my mom has four ulcers and she uses Prilozec for it.  Is that what it is called?  It helps calm it down.

And my hospital bill that I got for finding out about the pregnancy is $4,000.  I think I cried.
